Being tourists in Weymouth

A few weeks ago I needed to collect some pebbles for my Beaver Scouts to paint into bugs during one of their meetings. Many years ago if we needed a pebble beach we would head to Brighton, but with us living in Dorset now, we decided to visit Weymouth.

It was gloriously sunny, which inspired us to become tourists for the day, despite having visited Weymouth hundreds of times over the years. We bought ice creams, watched M enjoy a donkey ride and ticked one of my life list activities off by renting a pedalo.

It was lovely to sit on the sand watching M race in and out of the sea, growing damper with each paddle. Eventually he was down to his pants and bouncing through the mini waves lapping the coast. At one point he decided he wanted to swim, so lay down just at the edge of the shore and splashed his arms. At this point a family dressed in large coats and jumpers stood and watched bemused, expressing how cold it was. But M was oblivious as he continued his fun.

We were having so much fun and relaxing that I even passed my camera to Clara and got her to snap a photo of me. As I wanted to make sure this year I captured myself in front of the camera.

I quite like the idea of being tourists within our own County this Summer. I hope we visit many more places over the next few months and just enjoy the clichés.

  • We’re lucky to live in an amazing County that has lots of fabulous places to visit. I was born and raised in the Midlands. My first time living down in Dorset was in the 90’s as a single man. I moved back down here 3 and half years ago with the family and each year we find yet another new place to visit either on the coast or a little in-land.

Dorset has some fantastic places to visit summer or winter and I feel grateful to live and share this with the family

We live in a beautiful country and when the good weather comes along it’s great to take advantage. Polzeath is like our Weymouth beach and I love a day here with our surf boards and ice creams, I’m more than happy being a tourist at home. I must say I do like the look of the donkey ride for M and well done him venturing into the sea, just as a beach day should be. Lovely to see you in the photo too Kirsty.

Thank you for sharing on #CountryKids

  • It’s nice to enjoy being tourists somewhere you know well. I love the photo of M on a donkey and having fun in the sea. Lovely to see you in front of the camera too! 🙂 #countrykids

  • Gorgeous photos, looks like you had so much fun.
Love the picture of you too, looking super cool.
I think being tourists in your local area can be super fun, often we miss the amazing things locally just because we’re so used to seeing them
