He needs a hobby

Our little man has always been an energetic little bean. As soon as he started walking at 8 months he’s wanted to move constantly. We call him our little hummingbird as he doesn’t seem to stay still, even when sleeping.

Now that M is at school we have realised he needs a hobby to burn off all the excess energy he is lucky to have. Even with trips to the park and time spent scooting he still bounces around all day long. We didn’t want to put him into any clubs he wouldn’t be keen on as we didn’t want to put him off clubs overall. So we suggested several club ideas to M and have given him a few months to think about what he wanted to do.

His choice was gymnastics, which we all think would be a perfect hobby for him. He’s always had good strength, it will teach him how to safely tumble, rather than the very crazed way he has of tumbling and it will help use up some of his endless energy.

We’re not sure how he will get on to begin with as he is rather shy, but hopefully it will help him with his confidence too. Since joining the waiting list he’s also expressed an interest in football club, so we could have a gym loving footballer in the future. But whatever he settles on, we will always be supportive and possibly be those embarrassing mums on the sidelines waving and cheering him on.

  • Oooh how exciting for you all! I did gymnastics for a few years as a kid, I desperately wanted to try trampolining too, but the list for that was so long I never got a go.
If he gets into gym & football, I imagine the gym will really help his football skills too.
It’s so great that you’re letting him decide what he wants to try, and supporting him. Fabulous 🙂

I’ve got 2 of these physical little monkeys always busy and always climbing!! Like you, we decided that gymnastics was a good option as they would then learn to do things with a little more control and hopefully give me less heart failure!! He will love it!

  • Gymnastics is great for so many things with active children – strength and confidence, personal achievement and pushing and learning boundaries. Your son will love it and as with anything, if it doesn’t work out, you can try something else #CountryKids

Kids can really be full of beans at times can’t they? It’s great that you’re finding ways to help M let off some of his energy in a new environment. Some of mine attended gymnastics when they were younger and all loved it, it’s fab to watch as their skills develop.

Thanks for linking up with me on #CountryKids.

  • Gymnastics is a great way to let of steam. My older ones do it and adore it #countrykids

  • Baby Isabella

He’s like spiderman! Its great to let off steam outside. Gymnastics would be excellent for this little fella x #countrykids

  • Great post 🙂 My two boys love their gymnastics. They’re not massively competitive, but the chance to run around stretching, climbing and balancing is perfect for them #countrykids

  • My Danglish Family

Aww bless, sounds like a good choice for a boy full of beans! I remember loving gymnastics as a kid! Hope he enjoys it xx #countrykids

  • Gym is a great way to burn off energy! I always worry I’ll push mine into doing clubs one day but I suppose if they are happy to choose and give it a try that’s all we can ask!! #countrykids
