Camp Bestival Space costume ideas

Our favourite time of year has got to be the weekend when Camp Bestival takes place. It’s the time when we book a long weekend off work and spend some quality family time under canvas and dancing around like crazy people to the amazing line up of artists who perform all weekend long. There is always something to do and there is always fun to be had.

If this is your first year at Camp Bestival there is one thing you need to know and that is there is always a theme and you will almost certainly fit into the crowd if you dress up for the occasion. This year we think they really have surpassed themselves and announced that Camp Bestival is heading into Outer Space!

So with only 4 months to go it’s time to get your creative thinking cap on and start planning your costume. You don’t need to spend a fortune on a professional costume so here are our top 5 space themed ideas that won’t break the bank.

When you think of space and music I’m almost certain the first song that pops into most people’s heads is Space Oddity by the late, great David Bowie. So why not pay homage to the legend and go with a simple face paint – the infamous red and blue lightening. It’s very simple to recreate, all you need is some children’s face paints and a mirror, or a person with a steady hand to do it for you.

You can pick up face paints for under £10 from sites such as amazon or even from your local pound shop and it should be enough for the whole family. If you want to push the boat out, why not wear some flamboyant lycra, we won’t judge.

Star System – Why not be your own star system. Buy a black t-shirt or jumper, black trousers and some glow in the dark stars. Attach the stars to your clothes and when the sun goes down you can rave all night long in your glow in the dark star suit.

Whilst browsing online for clothes for our little man I came across these amazing PJ’s in H&M which are just perfect for Camp Bestival. If you don’t want to dress up, why not kit the kids out as astronauts and keep them warm at night

Top tip – Before going out at night, get the kids wrapped up warm in their PJ’s, pop them in the wagon or pushchair with pillows, blankets and some ear defenders so that if they get tired they can go to sleep and you can keep dancing. Then just transfer them when you get back to the tent.

Alien – Pop down to your local Primark and pick up a cheap green t-shirt and a pair of blue leggings and create yourself an alien outfit. Get the kids to draw funny patterns on them and you can pick up a pair of deely boppers to wear on your head to finish off the outfit.

Astronaut – There are some excellent astronaut costumes available online that are relatively inexpensive to buy and it will keep the kids very happy. We found numerous costumes on Ebay for under £15 including postage. It’s always worth having in the dressing up box for a rainy day as well.
