Gaining confidence

When I asked the Universe for a healthy happy child, I also asked for one with awesome climbing skills and bucket loads of adventurous confidence. It seems that universe was listening that day and even though our little man suffers from a little bit of social shyness, he makes up for it with his confidence in climbing, jumping and general rough and tumble playfulness.

park and play

Visits to the park are one of our favourite things to do at the weekend. It’s become a measurement of milestones, from week to week M seems to master something else in the play area. C takes M to the park almost every other day during the week, but because I work, I don’t get to see his achievements until the weekend.

This month he has mastered the balance beam (with help). I was so impressed when he managed to keep his feet one in front of the other, because to be honest I struggle at times. His little face when he jumped off the end was of sheer pride. I love to see him impress himself.

The slide is something he mastered quite a while ago, but now he can confidently climb the stairs, walk along to the slide, turn around and slide down on his tummy. He no longer needs to hold his mummies hands to slide down. It’s sort of bittersweet, I love to watch him grow and gain confidence, but I also like to reach out see him take my hand instead of brush it away with a “no Mama”.

I don’t want to wish his years away, but I really can’t wait until he masters the climbing frame, as I can already sense the pride he will have in himself when he does. Sometimes I have to remind myself he is only 17 months old.

I say this every time but he is so gorgeous! Our LP isn’t very confident in many situations – to even use the slide she needs coaxing! I’m looking forward to her being slightly older and gaining some confidence in that kind of thing 🙂

Aww he’s getting so big! And with some serious climbing and scrambling skills it seems; he looks like he’s having a whale of a time!

He looks to be having a blast! Can’t believe he is only 17 months! He is really forging ahead. My wee man went through an extreme shy stage too and you would not believe that now as he says hello to everyone!

There is a little climber in there, definitely! Lovely photos. #CountryKids

Gorgeous photos, he looks like he’s having a great time 🙂 My wee girl is 22mo now and thinks she can do everything her big brothers can do, which is frankly terrifying! But, she’s getting there. Loving the red boots! #CountryKids

It’s such a privilege to watch our children develop and grow and enjoy the world again through their eyes. I’m sure M’s confidence will continue to grow from strength to strength, and when he gets older you will be holding your breath in horror at the things he attempts. Thanks for linking up and sharing your lovely photos of outdoor fun with Country Kids.

My boys are now 10 and 11 – I often don’t look to see where they have climbed or what they have got up to. It’s too scary to know sometimes!

Lovely post – our eldest daughter is a massive climber and I love that she enjoys it so much and is so brave climbing so much and so high. She is now 7 but we still enjoy taking her out climbing – it’s just now she’s climbing trees rather than a climbing frame!
