A gloriously happy day

Today same same sex marriage is legal. I feel so proud to be an openly gay woman on this day. I know this year I will be able to officially marry my wife and I can’t wait. I love her with every fibre of my being, she is my soul mate. I could not live without her.

Yesterday I wrote a post for Mumsnet about same sex marriage and how I feel about my civil partnership. I wrote that our wedding day will always be the day I married my wife, it was magical but I don’t want to be Kirsty’s ‘Civil Partner’ in the eyes of the law, I have never and will never introduce her as my civil partner, I want to officially be be her wife. Now I can.

I woke up to the sound of my little family pottering around down stairs getting breakfast, watching telly and I felt a wave of pride and happiness. I’m such a lucky woman. Not only do I have a loving, wife, beautiful son and supportive family, but to live in such an accepting country. I thank all those who passed this law through government, it means more to me than you will ever know.

Today is one of the happiest days of my life and I hope you can share in our happiness today.

(Apologies for our happiness linky going live a few days late, however, this day was too important to miss.)

This post gave me lump in throat. I am so proud of our country and it’s acceptance. I know there is a long way to go but it is a great step. I am excited for you both.
