I remember when I first discovered Gilmore Girls, long before Netflix and streaming, I found myself in the world of Lorelai and Rory. Wishing I spent as much time down my local coffee shop or going to a private school.
When we became Netflix subscribers I was so happy the day they added Gilmore Girls to their library. So you can imagine how excited was when I discovered there was going to be a reunion. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is coming to Netflix in November and oh my gosh I can not wait.
As Netflix stream team members we get asked to join in fun challenges and this month they asked us to create some snacks or a bite to eat based on our favourite series or film on Netflix. I said to Clara I knew exactly what would inspire my creations.
Breaking Bad….. I kid, obviously I chose Gilmore Girls. It was my chance to celebrate all the food they enjoy on the show over the years.
Pizza plays a big part in their lives with them often sharing pizza at home or discovering old leftover pizza in the fridge.
We made what we called cheats pizza at home with our little man. You can buy pizza bases from any good supermarket, add a tomato and herb passata with some grated mozzarella and cheddar and you are good to go. It’s also our little dude’s favourite pizza so it was a win win all round.
Next we enjoyed some of Grandpa’s homemade pastry palmiers (served with a coffee below). These little pastries would not look our of place served in Luke’s coffee shop. To make this an easy creation you can use ready-made puff pastry, 1 egg and some caramlised onions. They are very moorish so make sure you make plenty.
Gilmore Girls also features Lorelai and Rory enjoying a movie or two. Which is why we popped some fresh popcorn in honour of their movie nights. We made ours salty, but you could add a dash of sugar if you liked it sweet. Our little man couldn’t keep his hands off the popcorn.
Last but not least, we just couldn’t celebrate Gilmore Girls without a freshly brewed coffee. My mother in law kindly taught me how to use her state of the art coffee machine to make an epic coffee with proper frothy milk and a dusting of chocolate, just how I imagine I would order a cup of coffee if I was in an episode of Gilmore Girls.
If Gilmore Girls isn’t your cup of coffee, there are plenty of fab series to watch on Netflix including Black Mirror, iZombie, American Horror Story and Haters Back Off. Or if you want something for the kids, M is loving, Ask the Storybots, Pokemon Indigo League, and Dinotrux.
We’d love to know what snacks you would make inspired by your favourite film or series on Netflix. Let us know in the comments below.
