Last month I got to be the best….. as my friend asked me to be his Best Person during his marriage to the love of his life. My best friend and I had discussed us being each other’s best people a long time ago and he was my Best Man over 8 years ago at our wedding. So it felt great to finally undertake my role as Best Person for him.
With me living a couple of hours away from my friend I didn’t really have much of a role in helping him prep for the wedding. But I was able to help organise his two “Hag Do” celebrations. As the day grew closer I was aware of how emotional I felt about him getting married. Even though we’ve both been busy growing up and settling down, I still had great memories of us singing along to Spice Girls and binge watching Dawson’s Creek.
The night before we drove down to the wedding I remembered the night before my own wedding and knew he would be feeling anxious and excited at the same time. I am not sure if my “you’re getting married TODAY” text helped the situation.
When we arrived at the venue it was buzzing with excitement. I donned my suit and spent some time with my best friend in his hotel room. It was great to see all the prep as the bridesmaids did their makeup as the stylists sorted their hair.
Soon it was time to take our places for the service. Watching my best friend walk down the aisle to take his place next to his soon to be husband was super emotional. I was sat next to the Mother of my best friends Groom, whom was certainly feeling positively emotional about the day. Everyone looked stunning and the decor and colour scheme were beautiful.
The ceremony was over in no time and my best friend was now married. The smiles they both wore were fantastic to witness. As we all moved outside for photographs we got to sample some delicious canapés whilst sipping Prosecco.
The day seemed to fly by, with the most beautiful food being served, my speech going well and a lovely moment in the gardens with sparklers. It felt great to be a part of something so special.
The evening ended with an ace disco with a couple of songs on the karaoke. My this point I was a little bit tipsy and M had school the next day, so we called it a night and headed home.
I will always have the fondest memories of this day. I was so grateful to have such an important role and look forward to seeing the official photographs when they return as we get to live it again through the photos.
