Safety in the kitchen with LockBlock by Joseph Joseph

Both Clara and I love to cook in the kitchen. We’ve quite a small kitchen, so all the important items sit on the counter tops. This includes our knife block and knives. But thanks to Joseph Joseph and their revolutionary creation, the LockBlock (£60.00), we don’t have to worry about our little man harming himself with the kitchen knives.

The LockBlock has a clever design that locks knives safely inside the block and requires an adult-sized hand to operate a clasp on the side. This means that most children aged 5 and under will be unable to remove any knife. We put our LockBlock to the test over the last few months and can confirm that it is fantastic at doing it’s job. We were concerned that something which held tight to your knives whilst they were in a knife block, would blunt the knives over time. But our knives haven’t become blunt, in fact they are some of the best knives we have ever owned.

So how does it work?

“As each knife is placed inside a knife slot, its blade is held securely by the unique Cam-lock™ mechanism. Pulling on a knife only increases the force of the grip so knives cannot be simply forced out of the block.” – Joseph and Joseph

The LockBlock is perfect for kitchens where young children help you prepare and cook food. We know there is no way M can take a knife out as it requires an adult sized grasp. It may seem pricey, but can you put a price on safety? I know some may say, don’t let your child prepare food near a knife block in the first place. But with a small kitchen like ours, we would have to rearrange everything any time he wanted to help. So now we know he can pull up his stool and help us without any worries.

*We were sent the LockBlock and knives for the purpose of this review. They have been tested to the max and all views an opinions are our own.

This looks like such a great idea! The kids both love to sit on the worktop and help me cook and many times they’ve gone to grab the knives from the block. Great invention x
