After attending Camp Bestival for several years we have worked out that taking our own food for lunches and breakfast helps to keep the cost down. But each year our mission for the best cool box for a festival always came up short, with the food defrosting after 24 hours in the heat. But this year we discovered the Coleman 50QT Xtreme® and were incredibly impressed with how it kept everything cool.
The Coleman 50QT Xtreme® has a capacity of 47 litres and can keep contents cold for up to 5 days. We advise pre freezing bits and pre cooling the box down before you use it for those 5 days. The Cool box comes with a sturdy handle, built in wheels and a lid that can be used to hold drinks or as a handy seat.
We’ve used the Coleman 50QT Xtreme® everywhere from a festival, beach party, picnic and just to keep extra drinks cool during a family party. It’s easy to clean and doesn’t have any annoying folds or creases where mould could lurk and grow. It also comes with a handy plug at the base to help remove water if you’ve used it to store ice.
On one particular outing to the beach it really shone. Not having to lug the cool box across the beach was great as I was able to smoothly pull it across the sand. It sat in the blazing sun for about 5 hours and kept our lunch and drinks at a temperature that felt like they’d been in a fridge the whole time. Our ice packs were still frozen the next day, despite it being left in a very hot car.
I can certainly confirm it is the best cool box we’ve ever used and will be using it for all our future festival and camping trips.
The Coleman 50QT Xtreme® retails at approx £90 and can be bought from most good outdoor stores.
